As I have a mentioned project
raised from need to create a platform of artistic and curatorial character
connecting art scenes in Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia. I have taken for
its motto term used by Jurgen Habermas established for a better understanding
of process that took a part in former Eastern Bloc during nineties – Catch-up
Revolutions.
The terms such as revolution, velvet revolution or year 1989 provoke a lot of doubts based on the indisputable fact that each of countries took different direction of development after the end of communism. Enthusiastically approached new capitalistic order that has been introduced to this part of Europe ruined the remains of the community built after the WWII. Wildly distributed western patterns influenced post-communistic countries to an extend we have forgotten about similarities and cultural heritage.

The main goal of the project is look at last decade of 20th century from perspective of artists and curators who have been growing in democratic Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. In this case democracy stands for freedom, and freedom means responsibilities that have to be taken by all of these countries. The process of development instead of being an idyllic coming back of paradise lost turns to be more a misery of catching up – when the actual revolution can’t held its promises.
During the workshops we group consist of artists and curators will make an attempt to examine nineties emphasising specifically subjects such as: influence of western culture on former eastern bloc, new cultural community that was established after the collapse of iron curtain, post-communist nostalgia, rejection of the religion, ontological condition of fake brands, desecration in terms of morality.
Part of the workshops will be dedicated to new strategies in curatorial practises. The exhibition open as a final outcome of the project will experiment with the idea of displaying art in general creating somewhat we could call a visual essay.
